Me and Zen Yoga

I am delighted that I have just graduated as a Zen yoga teacher. The process was wonderful, an intense 2 week immersion at the Anam Cara retreat in Inverness under the wonderful tutorage of Zen Master Diazan Skinner, followed by a heafty dose of writing stuff down for the inevitable assessment.

I am so looking forward to sharing what I have learnt with anyone who would like to join in.

Zen yoga explores the energetic aspects of body, mind and being. As well as creating conditions to live well in the body by improving mobility, strength and range we are extending into the organs, fascia, energy, breath and mind. This includes recognising feelings, sensations and the energy we experience, generate and share.

Zen yoga has three key elements, awareness/mindfulness, alignment/asana, and the energy (ki) that flows within our bodies. Zen yoga draws on connections between nature, the seasons and humankind.

You don’t have to be a Buddhist. Zen yoga is creative and open, through simple, adaptable movements we can explore the energy flowing in our bodies, begin to balance our emotions, and foster physical wellbeing.

The practice includes movement, stretching, breath work and balance. Zen yoga is creative and brings a freedom and understanding between mind and body. You don’t have to achieve, just be yourself.

Look out for the course coming up at Yoga at the Reach.

Here I am on a rock at Anam Cara, it’s a lot higher up than it looks … honest. Thank you to Trish for helping me to get up there and taking a pic.

A wonderful place to spend a couple of weeks, lying down, stretching, meditating and learning. Thank you especially to Daizan and my fellow yogis.
